Local cinema festival facilitated by the ENLIGHTENme lighting installation in Piazza Lambrakis

After the success of the first edition in 2022, "Si Gira!" (Italian for “Action!”), the itinerant programme of free screenings organised by the Municipality of Bologna, took place from 11th to 30th of July 2023, turning on the screens in three locations of the city, including Piazza Lambrakis in the Savena neighbourhood. The main objective of the festival is to create moments of getting together in the city's most widespread areas by offering a quality cultural offering able to enhance closeness and community relations to be rooted in those different urban areas.

Closeness and community relations have also been an important engine of the work done by the local ENLIGHTENme team in Piazza Lambrakis, where a new lighting system was developed in the framework of the project and was activated at the beginning of June 2023.

Thanks to the shared planning with the neighbourhood's residents aimed at improving citizen’s wellbeing in urban spaces, the new lighting system is the result of the joint work of the project partners the University of Bologna, the Municipality of Bologna and the Foundation for Urban Innovation together with the Configuring Light research group at the London School of Economics, that supported the project design, and the lighting company Neri, which supplied the lighting elements. A smart system controls the new lights, which can be easily configured as required. This allowed Piazza Lambrakis to be lit in exactly the correct way to have the best cinema experience for this special occasion.
